Oaks Athletic 2 Essex Wanderers 0

The game looked like it might be called off today. Several other games were called off due to the white lines not being visible enough on the pitches. I think it was mainly that it was a bit chilly out there. Poofs.

The manly referee decided to carry on with the game after discussing with grounds keeper willy! We had a late kick off, which managed to piss the other team off a bit.

The wind was quite bad, I know as my hands were frozen on the sideline in the first half. Me and Ian had to snuggle to keep warm. Anyway...... lets talk about the football.

A quick free kick was taken by Jackson, which Mr Cole dummied and somehow the keeper missed it. 1-0 to the acorns! The other team were riled by this, they dont like it up-em. They started getting more concerned about the amazing referee than their own game of football. The back four were outstounding today, as was parker, who maanged to catch the ball in difficult conditions.

In the second half the amazing super sub keef, came on to score with pretty much his first touch! It was a left foot screamer into the top corner aswell. Gollum set up the chance with a low cross what the keeper palmed into Horwood Juniors path.

There were many shouts about it being offside, which it wasnt, and one of their team members got sent off. After that the game was a farce and Oaks had it well and truley won. A good result. 5 games to go.

Defoe Arrested - Exclusive Photo!

Jermaine Defoe was arrested this afternoon, after eagle-eyed cops caught him cycling on the pavement near his London home. Defoe was carried by the law-team for a while before being dropped. A bit like his season at Tottenham really!

Hiltop 1 Oaks Athletic 2

There was a severe lack of refereeing today, but luckily the game did not turn too scrappy.

Another game of two halves for the Oaks this week. The first half the Oaks battled uphill, which is never easy. A throughball split the defence and allowed the often offside Hiltop striker to nip in and score. Oaks trailed at the break 1-0 but we knew that kicking downhil would help in the second half. A Jackson thunder strike in the top corner dented the Hilltop ego early on. The second goal was bundled in by A. Bellend, who played for their team.

Several offsides later and the game was over, phew. I now have a sore red ear due to Deano the Rhino.

I make it that oaks have 30 points and not the 23 it says on the thurrock league website at the time of writing.

Essex Wanderers 2 Oaks Athletic 2

Maybe this was the first game played in drizzling conditions this season, but it was probably one of the more difficult tests of football for the Oaks team. The pitch was a mudbath with waterlogged areas. It also seemed a wide pitch, with a lot of space. Mud kind of hampers use of this space. Anyway, enough about mud.

The first half was hard fought, and a defensive blunder cost oaks a soft goal at the back. Oaks managed to get a goal back before half time with a hard and low corner from Jackson, which caused confusion in the box. A flick with one of Long Gollum's huge boots and the ball was in the net. 1-1 at the interval.

In the second half Essex Wanderers held posession well in the middle of the park, but Oaks still looked dangerous on the break. One of the long shots by Wanderers took a deflection and wrong footed Parker and it went into the corner of the net.

Not long after this Oaks got another goal after a quick counter attack. An accurate pass from J. Gray O' KERIN carved a hole in the defence which Jackson took in his stride and levelled matters with a clinical finish.

Oaks held out until the end, with several chances from both sides not amounting to much. The league table should be interesting in a few games time.

For the next three weeks we are playing at blackshots. Next week we are playing Hilltop.

Aches & Pains On a Monday

I can tell I have not played for a while. That was one of the most painful walks in the morning for a long time. First it was the foot, then it seemed to he the shin!

Must be getting old. How does Jeff do it? Is he a robot?

Oaks Athletic 3 Azzuri 1

Oaks started very poorly today, and went a goal down in the first half to an Azzuri team who looked right up for this match. It was another 'game of two halves' for the Oaks though. At half time Jackson came off. His back was hurting, he missed an open goal but he didnt miss one of their players. He also hid my shoe. He really is rubbish!

Streetboy replaced the lucklustre Jackson, and keefy Boy came on to go in Left Midfield. Deano the Rhino was then placed back in defence, with Kierns taking over his role in the centre of midfield. The tactical changes were inspired, a bit like an uglier Jose Mourinho and his Chelski.

Oaks enjoyed much more possession and many more chances. Time and space allowed the team to pressure Azzuri's defence. Gollum fired in after a goal-mouth scramble, which gave Oaks the confidence and boost they needed. Jeffy Archer was again on top form, with a weaving run into the pentalty area, whereupon he was upended. It was not a dive! Streetboy finished the resulting penalty with aplomb. Two-One OAKS!

The next goal started with another Mazy run by jeffy, who spread the play out wide to nathan. Nathan chipped into the box back to Jeff who had carried on his run. No mistake from the old timer - 3-1.

The Game Was Over. This win was dedicated to Lee Gray, who is our right back Jonny Grays brother. Lee was tragically killed last week in a car accident. The Oaks team offer Jonny & family our full support and condolences. A minutes silence was held before the game out of respect for Lee.

Must Win Game On Sunday

Or is there?

Who are we playing? Is it home to Azzuri?

We need to get our goal difference up and a result will push us up into the Top 4. I'm guessing though because Mr Thurrock Sunday League hasn't updated the FA full time website.
