17/12/06: Oaks Athletic 2 Vs Linford Wanderers 4

Well, thats the first half of the season over. With no wins and only three draws so far, it's not looking good boys! Now that we're out of yet another cup, we can concentrate on the league ! There was a vast improvement on last weeks' performance and I can see that we've turned a corner. Hopefully, we can build on that perfomance and secure some points in the new year.
Parker and quite a few players turned up sober yesterday, and it made such a difference. I thought that we worked well as a team and everyone seemed motivated. We were very much in the game until the last ten minutes really. I would like to thank the referee for being consistent throughout the game, and also for not sending Parker off this week! Our two goals came from Nathan O'Kerin and little Johnny Gray (Dolly is his new nick name, it's what Ian's daughter calls him. Mugged off by a toddler, he he!). Jacko played a part in both goals and I thought he was a live wire for 90 minutes. Even though Jacko's 'pass' was really a shot, it went straight to Nathan and he buried it. Jacko won the penalty after he got brought down in the box. Little Johnny's goal was a rebound from his gash penalty kick which went straight at the keeper. Lucky for him, the keeper couldn't hold it. They scored four goals and one of those was scored by the monster of a sub they brought on, and he isn't shit now is he ?!?!?!? Another one was from the penalty spot after 'Dolly' decided to cut one of their players down in the box, idiot.
I think Alex 'The Slug' White a.k.a. One-Fat-Leg will have some competition round the pool table if he returns to the team. Karl, Eye-ball-Paul and Sharpy all knew their way round the pool table down the George and Dragon. If anyone bumps into Shaggy, try and get him back with the team. Last time I spoke to him he seemed really down about not getting a starting place in the team. If he'd have turned up yesterday, he could of had a full game probably. Competition for places is important in the team, in theory it should make you play better. STOP THE PRESS! The main man made his first appearance back in the red and black with three minutes left on the clock. Look out chumps it's going to be a fucking marvellous new year!

Last indoor training session is tomorrow evening at James Hornsby High School 7-8pm.
Next match is on Sunday 7th January against Sockett's Heath at, er, Sockett's Heath.

(That's Blackshots by the way, and it's a league away game, 09.45 am meet)
Hope the knee gets better Cairns. Do the exercises I told you to do then ice it up ok.

10/12/06: Concept 5 Vs Oaks Athletic 0

Within the first fifteen minutes, Concept had scored three goals. There were a number of contributing factors, but the one that stood out was the fact that Parker was totally shit-faced. After turning up late in his attire from the night previous, and forgetting his kit, he started in goal. He failed to mention that he couldn't see the ball until after the third goal pee-rolled into the goal. A fourth goal rolled in and then we were forced to make a change, and Sharpy volunteered to stand in between the sticks. Four to nil at half time, and in my opinion, all four of the goals were down to a lack of morale and lack of a desire to win. Obviously, the morale of the team had suffered due to the way Parker had let them down. Everyone in the team likes a drink, but a real team-player would have got his head sorted before the match. I'm sure all of us have turned up drunk before, no doubt.
After half time, Parker was running the line and failed to flag for a clear offside which led to the fifth goal. The second half was scrappy and Concept even managed to add insult to injury by giving all their fatties a run out.

This weeks Rant:
I just want to be part of a team where we don't let each other down. We need to be able to count on each other for those ninety minutes. We proved that we could pass the ball around and create chances. These moments where we looked like a decent footballing side were too few and far between, and sometimes it was the communication which was lacking. There were a lot of quiet players on sunday. I would like to see an improvement this sunday in the cup. I would like to see a good team performance using these key aims:
  • Team togetherness and communication
  • Passing (to feet, a simple pass is still a good pass) and moving into space
  • Creating goal scoring chances
  • A burning desire to win the game
  • Good player positioning, particularly when defending
  • Do not let frustration get the better of your judgement

If we don't play as a team, we'll be out of another cup, and won't have won a single game in the whole first part of the season. Do you really want that to happen?

Blackshots 09.30 am Versus Linford Wanderers 10.30 am k.o.

Be there, and be up for it !
